Cathleen Stone Island ( formerly known as Thompson Island, is a privately owned island in Boston Harbor and is protected by a Conservation Restriction by Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the National Park Service (NPS). The conservation restriction conserves natural and historic resources and ensures opportunities for public access. For years it has been the site for the city’s Outward Bound Programming. This harbor island is perfect for exploring nature thanks to its salt marshes, herons, egrets, flowering meadows, and fruit trees. Prior to the development of Boston, the island functioned as a trading post between Native Americans and David Thompson. The island later became a farm and trade school for orphans from 1833 to 1975.
The island is accessed by ferry which departs from the island dock in South Boston at 9AM, sharp, and returns to the mainland at noon. Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed by a Cathleen Stone Island Outward Bound staff member, who will provide a brief orientation.
On our visit we will explore the island, heading to the far reaches to ensure places of stillness in which to meditate and relax into the landscape where sea, land and sky meet.
The ferry fee is $20. We will reserve our seats in advance so payment will be made to directly to me. The maximum number of participants is 10.
